The Lighthouse

Still in use today, this structure is a key feature in Galle, and easily distinguishable as well. Also called the Pointe de Galle Light back in the day, this is Sri Lanka’s 1st ever lighthouse, though the original one built in 1848 by the British during their reign was later destroyed. What you see today is its replacement, built in 1939. It currently towers at 26.5m, and offers a fantastic vantage point for spotting ships out in the expansive ocean. Though visitors aren’t allowed inside, the surrounding area is quite something.
