Isuruminiya Vihara

Originally known as Meghagiri Vihara, this is a rock temple, and its surroundings are delightfully enticing to say the least. A calming, beautiful location, it dates back to around 260 BC, and is found near the Tissa Wewa. You’ll find an intricate stone carving of a couple here, which is one of its most significant characteristics. It was actually moved here from another spot, and has amassed plenty of theories since its discovery. Other famous carvings here include the Horseman, Elephant Pond and the Royal Family.
