This cave in Kitulgala is of great significance not just to Sri Lanka, but also genealogy as a whole. It is here that skeletal remains dating some 32,000 years back belonging to the Balangoda Man as he’s known locally, a prehistoric human, were found. Aside from this, the cave has also provided evidence of early life and a deeper insight into the same, with interesting artefacts and tools used during those times. These findings were major breakthroughs for history and our understanding of how human life evolved, across Asia.
